The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Mechanical Engineering Technical Division (METD) has successfully hosted its Annual Golf Tournament 2025 on Saturday, 12th July 2025, at the prestigious Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam (KGPA). The event attracted overwhelming participation, with 32 flights sold, including 1 VVIP flight, bringing the total number of players to 128.
The tournament, themed around camaraderie and professional networking, kicked off early in the morning with a breakfast and registration session from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM at Restaurant Sri Mutiara, Ground Floor of the KGPA club. Participants were then treated to a group photo session at 7:40 AM, followed by a golf briefing to ensure smooth coordination for the shotgun start.
At exactly 8:00 AM, players took to the greens for a full round of 18 holes, with tee-offs coordinated across the course. The day was filled with friendly competition, strategic play, and moments of sportsmanship, as participants enjoyed the scenic and challenging layout of KGPA.

This year’s tournament was proudly supported by several prominent companies in the engineering and construction sectors. The Gold Sponsors comprised strong support from industry leaders, namely IOS Services, JCT Energy, Jarlway, Thermal Dut Malaysia, and Al-Co. Their generous contributions were instrumental in ensuring the event’s success and enhancing the overall experience for participants. All players received a generous comprehensive tournament player kit, which inclusive of a custom-designed premium golf shirt, a pair of golf sleeves, a cube of golf balls, and a practical golf umbrella. The kits were well-received by all participants and served as a memorable keepsake of the event.
After a full day on the course, players and guests gathered for a sumptuous buffet lunch at Dewan Seroja, 2nd Floor, starting at around 1:00 PM. The lunch session also served as the platform for the official closing remarks by the IEM Deputy President, Ir. Yau Chau Fong, speeches by Ir Dr Ricky Liew and METD Past Chairmen, and the event ended with a much-anticipated prize presentation and lucky draw by VVIP to players. The ceremony celebrated the winners of various categories, including the top performers in the closest-to-the-pin, longest drive, and overall best scores. The event concluded with a sense of fulfilment and gratitude, as participants reflected on a day well spent in the spirit of sport and professional unity.

The IEM METD Golf Tournament remains a key event on the calendar of engineering and management professionals in Malaysia. Beyond the fairways and greens, the IEM METD Golf Tournament also proved to be a resounding financial success. With strong sponsorship support, flight sales, and additional contributions from raffle draws and live auctions during the lunch ceremony, the event raised over RM 100,000 in total proceeds. This tournament not only fosters networking and collaboration within the industry but also reinforces the importance of community engagement and shared growth.
