The ENGINEER Power Talk: Industry by IEM featured a session titled “From Structural Design to Fabrication: A Practical Introduction to BIM and Open BIM Workflows”, held at Lounge 5, Hall 5. The talk was delivered by Dr. Afonso Miguel Solak, Director of Corporate Development, CYPE Software.
The session provided a practical introduction to Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Open BIM workflows, focusing on how digital tools can connect structural design, analysis, documentation and fabrication processes.
A key focus of the session was CYPE Connect, which supports the modelling, analysis and verification of structural connections while facilitating the preparation of fabrication documentation. The workflow demonstrates how structural information can be carried through different stages of a project, supporting greater interoperability and coordination.
The talk also highlighted the value of Open BIM approaches in improving information continuity between different project stakeholders. By connecting structural design with fabrication processes, engineers can better coordinate technical information and streamline the transition from design to construction.
The session provided participants with practical insights into how BIM and Open BIM workflows can support more efficient structural engineering processes and facilitate the adoption of digital technologies across the project lifecycle.
