Petaling Jaya (20 Jan) – The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) achieved a significant milestone with the soft launch of its first-ever Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station at Wisma IEM, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. This pioneering event underscores IEM’s leadership in promoting sustainability and renewable energy adoption within Malaysia’s engineering fraternity.
The event was officiated by IEM President, Ir. Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin, joined by Deputy President, Ir. Yau Chau Fong, Honorary Secretary, Ir. Dr. Prof. Tan Chee Fai, Honorary Treasurer and Infrastructure Subcommittee Chairman, Ir. Dr. Siow Chun Lim, and former Infrastructure Subcommittee Chairman, Ir. Prof. Dr. David Chuah Joon Huang, whose vision and dedication were instrumental in conceptualising and executing this groundbreaking project. The ceremony was attended by IEM members, invited guests, and key stakeholders, including representatives from EV Connection Sdn Bhd, a valued partner in this initiative.
Conveniently located at Wisma IEM, the EV charging station is designed to meet the growing demand for EV infrastructure. Open exclusively to IEM members, the facility offers an affordable charging rate of RM 0.90 per kWh, making it accessible and cost-effective.
The chargers, developed in partnership with EV Connection Sdn Bhd, are compatible with a wide range of EV models, ensuring seamless usability for members. Beyond its practical functionality, the station serves as a platform for education and engagement, allowing the engineering community to gain hands-on experience with EV infrastructure.
IEM encourages its members to actively utilise the EV charging station and participate in efforts to promote renewable energy and green practices. This project is one of many steps in the journey towards achieving Malaysia’s carbon neutrality goals by 2050.
