EV, Battery and New Energy Talent Development and Innovation (MCEF) 2026

The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) was honoured to participate in the Malaysia-China Forum on EV, Battery and New Energy Talent Development and Innovation (MCEF) 2026 — a high-level platform strengthening Malaysia-China collaboration in EV, battery technology, new energy, TVET, talent development, and industrial innovation.

Representing IEM, Ir. Alex Looi Tink Huey, IEM Honorary Secretary, attended as the IEM delegate and participated in a closed-door roundtable session with the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

During the session, IEM highlighted the importance of developing future-ready engineering talent to support the rapidly growing EV, battery, renewable energy, and energy transition sectors. Discussions focused on industry-driven education, TVET empowerment, Malaysia-China technical collaboration, professional competency development, and multidisciplinary expertise in emerging technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), smart grids, charging infrastructure, AI-driven energy management, and renewable energy integration.

IEM also emphasised its role in supporting Engineers, Engineering Technologists, and Engineering Technicians through professional development, technical upskilling, and international collaboration platforms including (WFEO), (FEIAP), and (AFEO).

The Deputy Prime Minister also visited the IEM Booth, where IEM introduced its professional membership pathways and the upcoming featuring emerging technologies and critical engineering discussions on sustainable data centres, electrification, energy transition, and BESS.

IEM remains committed to supporting Malaysia’s vision in building a competent, innovative, and future-ready engineering workforce for the nation’s sustainable industrial transformation.
