Kuala Lumpur Engineering Forum (KLEF) 2025 and ASEAN Mechanical Excellence Symposium (AMS) 2025: A Milestone in Engineering Collaboration

The Kuala Lumpur Engineering Forum (KLEF) 2025 and the ASEAN Mechanical Excellence Symposium (AMS) 2025 were successfully held in conjunction with the ENGINEER, 4th Engineering Exhibition and Conference on 9 and 10 September 2025, an official program of the IEM Convention and concurrent with the MARVEX Exhibition.

Organised by the Mechanical Engineering Technical Division (METD) of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), these two flagship events served as important platforms to celebrate the contributions of engineers, with a strong focus on “Engineering a Sustainable Future”
The program spanned two days:
• Day 1: Kuala Lumpur Engineering Forum (KLEF 2025), themed “Engineering a Sustainable Future”.

• Day 2: ASEAN Mechanical Excellence Symposium (AMS 2025), themed “Beyond Blueprints: Intelligent Building Planning & High-Performance Systems”.

Both KLEF and AMS opened with an Opening Speech delivered by Ir. Tony Cheng Yew Leong, Organising Chairman and Deputy Chairman of METD. For AMS, this was followed by a Welcome Speech by Ir. Dr. Ricky Liew Chee Leong, Chairman for METD, setting the tone for an engaging day of technical discussions and knowledge sharing.

KLEF featured distinguished speakers such as YBhg. Dato’ Seri Azman Ibrahim – Secretary General of the Ministry of Works, Malaysia, Er. Dr. Tan Seng Chuan – President-Elect of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), Academician Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ir. Prof. Emeritus Dr. Chuah Hean Teik – Past President of IEM, Ar.(Dr.) Serina Hijjas – Principal Hijjas Kasturi Associate, Ir. Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Chiang – President of IEM, En. Hussalmizzar Hussain – Senior Director of Standardisation (DOSM), Dato’ Paduka (Dr.) Ir. Hj. Keizrul Abdullah – Director Wetland International Malaysia and others leading professional addressing themes of “Engineering a Sustainable Future”.

The forum explored a wide range of issues central to the future of engineering, including:
• Malaysia Construction Policy, Sustainable Infrastructural Development, Global Standards, Innovation in Engineering Solutions via Education, Ethical Engineering and Social Responsibility, Engineering Technologies and Technicians and IEM Townhall – providing members with a platform for dialogue and collective vision-building.

ASEAN Mechanical Excellence Symposium (AMS), meanwhile, welcomed expertise from Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Adzizulrohim Abd Malek – Senior Mechanical Engineer of Public Works Department (JKR), En. Mohammad Faizal Abdul Hamid – General Manager Technology Development Division the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Mr. Simon Leong – Chief Sustainability Officer of SCM International Property Management Sdn Bhd, Ir. Au Chong Hun – Managing Director of Primetech Engineers Sdn Bhd, Ts. Adrian Lim Hock Heng – Chief Operating Officer of KJTS Group, Mr. Tony Song – Head of Integrated Solution Team of Midea Building Technologies, Mr. Lawrence Yeow – Head of Sales New Building Solution of KONE Malaysia, Mr. Adib Aiman and Mr. Syafiq Awaludin – Construction Manager of Turner. Addressing themes of “Beyond Blueprints: Intelligent Building Planning & High-Performance Systems”.

The AMS symposium focused on advanced mechanical systems and sustainable building services, featuring topics such as:
• Construction Towards Net Zero Buildings, Engineering Assets in Life Cycle Costing in Sustainable Building, Transportation Solutions for High-Rise Buildings, Managing Mega Projects with Lean Precision, Product Solutions for Centralised Air-Conditioning Systems, Integrating Energy Efficiency into Property and Facility Management, Unlocking Hidden Efficiency with Retro-Commissioning and Driving Sustainable Development through Smart Energy Solutions.

Both days underscored the importance of collaboration among government agencies, industry leaders, and professional institutions. Together, KLEF and AMS 2025 reinforced Malaysia’s position as a hub for engineering innovation, ESG adoption, and cross-border collaboration.

The success of these events was made possible through the dedication of the METD Organising Committee, including Ir. Tony Cheng Yew Leong (Organising Chairman), Ir. Dr. Ricky Liew Chee Leong, Ir. Dr. Sara Lee Kit Yee, Mr. Kuugan Thangarajoo (Emcee/Moderator), Mr. Kho Tuck Sing, Prof. Madya Ir. Dr. Hasril Hasini and Ms. Harmeet Kaur, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure seamless execution.

The Mechanical Engineering Technical Division of IEM extends its deepest appreciation to all speakers, partners, and participants. Special recognition also goes to CIS Network Sdn Bhd, whose close partnership with IEM was vital in ensuring the successful execution of these events. Above all, the organisers extend heartfelt thanks to the sponsors whose contributions underscored the spirit of industry support and collaboration: Midea, TigerIoT, KONE, Powerwell, Schneider Electric, and Copeland.
