On 5th July 2025, the IEM Young Engineers Section (YES), in collaboration with Sunway University Student Section, proudly hosted the highly anticipated Open Day 3.0 at The Zone, FET, Sunway University. Running from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the event welcomed hundreds of engineering students, fresh graduates, and young professionals from across the countries.
IEM X SUNWAY YES OPEN DAY 3.0 was designed to provide a platform for career exploration, industry exposure, and meaningful connections between the future and current players of the engineering world. The event featured a vibrant career fair, interactive industry booths, and a curated series of workshops and networking sessions that kept the energy high throughout the day.

The event featured a series of exciting activities, from insightful coffee sessions with engineers, to the fun and casual “Sembang Chillax” networking corner, and hands-on CV and Resume Workshops that helped participants polish their professional profiles. With a vibrant career fair, industry booths, and interactive sharing sessions, the Open Day truly reflected the spirit of engineering growth and community.
[Beyond Hello: Cracking the Interview Code]
We started the day with an exciting interview workshop, where participants picked up real-world tips on how to shine in technical interviews.
We were honoured to welcome Dr. Eu Poh Ling from NXP Semiconductors and Ir. Shazwan Khalid from Siemens Energy, who shared invaluable tips from their wealth of experience. Dr. Eu highlighted the importance of storytelling and structure when presenting technical achievements, while Ir. Shazwan emphasized mindset, curiosity, and confidence in interviews.

The session set the tone for the day, engaging, practical, and deeply relevant to students’ career journeys.
[Coffee Session: Meet the Engineers]
Next came the exclusive Coffee Networking Session, which offered selected students a rare opportunity for intimate, real-time dialogue with 22 experienced engineers from companies such as Schneider Electric, Delta, NXP Semiconductors, Siemens Energy, and IEM.
Fifty students from institutions like UTAR, SEGi, APU, and Sunway engaged in guided conversations at themed tables. With no formal speeches, the session focused on face-to-face discussions, drawing from real-life engineering experiences in diverse sectors. By the end, the conversations were still going strong, leaving many students with clearer career direction and new professional connections.
[CV Secrets – Stand Out or Miss Out]
As the day continued, Mr. Joshua Joel, a recruitment consultant from Michael Page, led a dynamic CV workshop titled “CV Secrets – Stand Out or Miss Out.”
With hands-on interaction and live feedback, Joshua shared what truly makes a CV stand out from a recruiter’s perspective. Students participated in peer discussions, live pair interviews, and Q&A sessions, walking away with actionable tips and the confidence to present their value clearly, on paper and in interviews. The session didn’t just inform; it empowered.
[Sembang Chillax Forum: CGPA, Skills, or Network – What Really Gets You Hired?]
To wrap up the event, the Sembang Chillax forum titled “CGPA, Skills, or Network – What Really Gets You Hired?” brought together Ir. Rusnida Talib (Kuala Lumpur City Hall), Mr. Lee Chang Zer (Delta Electronics), and Mr. Yau Jin Hui (Schneider Electric) for a candid and relatable discussion.
Students explored what truly matters in the job market, with panelists emphasizing that academic results, skills, and networking all play a role, and that balance is key. The forum ended with a lively Q&A, allowing students to raise personal concerns and gain valuable clarity on career decisions. The session served as a meaningful and reflective conclusion to an impactful day.
A special thanks to Dr. Eu Poh Ling, Ir. Shazwan Khalid, Mr. Joshua Joel, Mr. Lee Chang Zer, Ir. Rusnida Talib, and Mr. Yau Jin Hui for sharing your time, insights, and stories with our participants.

Lastly, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to all speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, panelists, volunteers, and especially to the students and young engineers who made the event possible. Your participation, energy, and curiosity brought this event to life. Stay tuned for more upcoming events and initiatives from IEM YES. We’re just getting started, and we can’t wait to continue empowering the next generation of engineers.
