The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) UiTM Student Section and the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) recently collaborated on a week-long program titled “UiTM x Kyutech 3.0: Achieving Globally Renowned University through Innovation in Sustainability.” Held at UiTM Shah Alam from 16 March to 22 March 2025, the program brought together 10 Kyutech students from various engineering majors, along with 28 students from IEM UitM SS to engage in a series of activities aimed at fostering sustainable development and technological advancement. The program also provided a unique opportunity for cultural exchange, taking place during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program kicked off with a tour of UiTM’s Solar Research Institute, where participants explored the latest advancements in solar energy technology and its potential to revolutionize renewable energy solutions. They also learned how the institute monitors and optimizes UiTM’s own solar park facilities, providing valuable insights into real-world applications of solar energy research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, the students visited UiTM’s Nano Satellite Lab, where they gained insights into the cutting-edge research being conducted in satellite technology and its role in addressing global challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To further enhance their understanding of sustainable transportation, the participants engaged in a dialogue with experts from the Malaysia Institute of Transport, based at UiTM. This interactive session provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the transportation sector in Malaysia and the role of innovation in creating sustainable mobility  solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program also included a visit to UiTM’s High Material Research Laboratory, where students explored the frontiers of materials science and its potential to drive advancements in various fields, including renewable energy, healthcare, and manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the program took place during Ramadan, the IEM UiTM SS committee, who were fasting, shared their experience of Iftar at the mosque with the Kyutech participants. They also participated in the distribution of “bubur lambuk,” a traditional Ramadan dish, to the local community, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and cultural understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A highlight of the week was the SDG talk titled “AI Implementation in Universities to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals,” delivered by Mr. Maki Valentini-Tsukeshi, founder of ZokuSoku. Mr. Tsukeshi’s presentation shed light on the transformative power of artificial intelligence in advancing sustainable development within the university setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the technical aspects, the program fostered a vibrant exchange of ideas and cultural experiences between UiTM and Kyutech students. The collaborative spirit and shared passion for innovation created a dynamic learning environment that extended beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The success of “UiTM x Kyutech 3.0” reinforces the importance of international collaboration in addressing global challenges and achieving sustainable development goals. By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and expertise, the program fostered a spirit of innovation and a commitment to creating a better future for all. The cultural exchange during Ramadan added a unique dimension to the program, enriching the experience for all participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IEM UiTM Student Section encourages all engineering students to actively participate in such initiatives to broaden their horizons, gain valuable insights, and contribute to a sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
